Anyway, I'm part of book club with friends from high school, and friends of friends, and our current read is a mystery novel. I do not normally read mysteries - I don't really like surprises or being kept in suspense - and I generally flip to the end to find out what happens before I read. I know, I know, terrible, but it is what it is...However, I am forcing myself to read this novel without peeking. It has been terribly difficult, but I am sticking with it. The novel is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it was originally published in Sweden, but was translated to English and published here as well. A movie based on the novel came out earlier this year in Swedish and there are talks to make one in Hollywood as well, as the book has been on the bestsellers list for quite some time.
How do I know all this? My husband LOVES this book. It is part of a trilogy that he cannot stop talking about. This is the other reason I am pushing myself to finish this book. My husband and I are both big readers, but we hardly ever read the same books - we are both interested in very different things. However, he finally read a book this summer I have been hounding him to read, so I feel like I owe him. You know what I mean?
Hence, I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone with this book, and you know what? I am actually enjoying it. I think there is an important lesson there.
